Huelskamp Speaks at TEA Parties Across Kansas: Time for the 10th Amendment
Fowler, KS – Yesterday at massive TEA Parties across Kansas, Senator Tim Huelskamp spoke about the importance of the 10th Amendment. “The 10th Amendment was added to the U.S. Constitution for one purpose – to restrict the power of the federal government. But for years,” noted Huelskamp, “Washington has increasingly ignored any limits on their power – especially with the passage of their most recent stimulus and bailout bills.”

In his farewell address twenty years ago, President Ronald Reagan noted: “We the people tell the government what to do, it doesn't tell us. We the people are the driver, the government is the car.” But according to Huelskamp, “We have reached a crisis point where not only is the government now driving our car – they literally even control the car company – GM. Or as some call it, Government Motors.”

Huelskamp has joined with a majority of the state Senate to sponsor Senate Concurrent Resolution 1615. This resolution would claim state sovereignty under the 10th Amendment and serve notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates and repeal federal legislation violating the Constitution. While the State Senate leadership has so far refused to allow a hearing on the proposal, Huelskamp intends to make a push for its passage during the Veto Session later the month.. “It is time to join the growing number of states who are passing 10th Amendment resolutions. We cannot afford to wait another year to reassert the power of the people and the states to where it belongs.”

Senator Huelskamp was a featured speaker at TEA Parties in Dodge City, Salina, Emporia and Hutchinson.
