Topeka (KS) – State Senator Tim Huelskamp today announces the passage of the top pro-life priority of the 2009 Legislative Session – the Women’s Right-to-Know-and-See Bill. In a broad bipartisan vote of 32-6, the full Kansas Senate joined Huelskamp in approving the provisions of SB 238.
This legislation would accomplish a number of items including the expansion of additional protections from coercion of women, granting women seeking an abortion the right to view an ultrasound or hear the fetal heartbeat of their unborn baby if they choose, developing a medically accurate ultrasound video detailing fetal development, and informing women of free alternatives to abortion.
According to Huelskamp, “This bill is the top priority for the pro-life community in Kansas. Providing women the choice to see or hear their unborn baby is the right thing to do – and it will save lives. I am proud to help lead its passage in the Senate.”
With passage of this legislation, the measure will go to the desk of Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Sebelius will have ten days to sign the bill, veto it, or simply allow it to become law.
