DODGE CITY – Today, Senator Tim Huelskamp, Republican candidate for Congress in the Big First Congressional District of Kansas, pledged to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any government takeover of healthcare that occurs in 2010.
“Healthcare is one of the most intimate and personal decisions an individual or family can make.” Huelskamp said. “It is a decision that should be unimpeded by government mandates and bureaucracy.”
The Repeal It! Pledge was sponsored by The Club for Growth, a fiscally conservative organization that has endorsed Huelskamp. Senator Huelskamp was one of the first congressional candidates nationwide to take this pledge.
According to Huelskamp, “If this Congress chooses to ignore the will of the public and pass this radical takeover of America’s entire health care system, I will do everything I can to try and repeal it. The real focus should be on lowering the cost of healthcare without growing government, and we can do that through free-market solutions like tort reform and allowing for the sale of health insurance across state lines.”
