TOPEKA - This evening a sold-out at capacity crowd at the KRA 12th Annual Gala Banquet was informed that the KRA Board had recently taken a vote on all statewide and federal races and 2 candidates received the 4/5's vote of all Board members that is required by KRA Bylaws for a Board Preference. The candidates receiving this KRA Board Preference are
State Senator Tim Huelskamp, candidate for U.S. House District 1
Kris Kobach, former Kansas GOP Chairman & constitutional law professor, candidate for Kansas Secretary of State
"This extraordinary high threshold isn't reached very often, but in these two races the KRA Board vote was overwhelming in it's support of these candidates because of their character, leadership, proven track records and stands on the issues facing our state and nation," said KRA Executive Director Charlotte Esau.
KRA President Don Small said, "There are many good candidates running for the various offices but in these two races the choice was clear." He went on to explain that official KRA endorsements will be issued when a vote is taken by the KRA members in June, at which time it will take a 2/3's vote of the members present to issue an endorsement.
Also this evening a number of awards were presented. Those being honored for their work were:
KRA Volunteer of the Year Award - Doris Riley, Overland Park
KRA ABCD Award, Above and Beyond the Call of Duty - Sharon Meissner, Topeka
KRA Stan Clark Principled Perseverance Award - Mark Taussig, Manhattan
KRA Ronald Reagan Outstanding Leadership Award - Helen Van Etten, Topeka
