Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund is pleased to endorse Tim Huelskamp for U.S. Congress in Kansas’ 1st Congressional District.
For the past 13 years, Tim Huelskamp has served as a Kansas State Senator and is a leader in the fight to protect the Second Amendment. In multiple battles with multiple votes, Tim has been on the right side every time – whether it be conceal carry, preventing government gun confiscation (which Sen. Huelskamp took on as a personal battle after the government response to the Greensburg tornado), or heading off lawsuits against gun manufacturers.
Senator Huelskamp was also involved in two other particularly important battles on behalf of gun owners.
In 1905 the Kansas Supreme Court unanimously declared that the Kansas constitutional right to own and bear a firearm was strictly a collective right. In light of the Heller decision last year, Tim and other legislators proposed an amendment to the Kansas constitution to define the right to keep and bear arms as an individual right. Sen. Huelskamp successfully helped to work this proposed amendment through the legislature and it will now come before the people for a vote in the next general election.
Additionally, in 2007 a very weak compromise on the issue of local government preemption of gun owner rights was working its way through the Legislature. When it reached the Senate floor, Sen. Huelskamp offered the key amendment to prohibit local government regulation of Kansans’ gun rights. As a result of Tim’s amendment, the anti-gun Governor vetoed the bill, though the legislature later easily overrode the veto.
With the anti-gun forces on the march, it is more important than ever to elect Congressmen who have a proven track record of voting to defend the Second Amendment. Time and again, Senator Huelskamp has shown by his votes and his leadership that he is willing to take tough stands in defense of our Second Amendment right to bear arms.
On behalf of Gun Owners of America, I am honored to make this endorsement and look forward to working with you upon your election to the U.S. Congress.
Sincerely,
Tim Macy
Vice Chairman
