FOWLER – In a statement released today, Republican state Senator Tim Huelskamp announced strong fundraising numbers for the third quarter of 2009 in his race for the First Congressional seat in Kansas.
“We’ve worked hard,” said Huelskamp, “But all the hard work in the world wouldn’t matter if people don’t think you can win, or should win. These numbers show real support for our candidacy.”
Huelskamp reported raising over $181,000 in the third quarter, bringing the total raised for his campaign to $420,000 since November 2008. Over 800 families have donated to Tim’s campaign this quarter. With more than $378,000 cash on hand, Huelskamp is well-positioned to win the primary in August.
“Unlike some folks, I am not independently wealthy, so I can’t write myself a fat check to artificially pump up my numbers,” said Huelskamp. “My fundraising success is the result of a lot of hard work and elbow grease.”
This quarter was Huelskamp’s best in fundraising. “Usually, your first quarter fundraising is your best because that’s when you tap your personal friends and family,” said Erin DeLullo, an advisor to Huelskamp. “After you pick the low hanging fruit is the true test of a candidate’s fundraising ability.”
“How much money you can raise is not an indication of what kind of campaign you will run, or what kind of Congressman you will be, but it is a measurement of how hard the candidate is working,” said Huelskamp. “These numbers show we’re taking this race seriously.”
The First Congressional seat, currently held by Congressman Jerry Moran, is being vacated by the incumbent because of his run for the US Senate. Five other candidates are contesting Huelskamp for the Republican nomination.
